This article discusses the recent advancements in pediatric teledermatology, including with accessibility. Renteria et al. analyzed 21 studies on pediatric teledermatology from between 2020 and 2024, and compared the teledermatological method with the patient outcomes. They included factors such as access to care, demographic disparities, and emerging technologies to assess the effectiveness of teledermatological methods. They found that, particularly in areas that were geographically or financially hard to access medically, teledermatology significantly improved access to pediatric dermatological care. The diagnostic accuracy was comparable to in-person assessment, particularly for hemangiomas and acne, and patient satisfaction was high. However, barriers such as language and technological literacy persisted, which made even teledermatology inaccessible to some. While teledermatology provides promising solutions to healthcare disparities, the structural inequalities must be addressed to ensure dermatological care is accessible to all.
